French Voiturettes Run

Saturday 28th May – Thursday 2nd  June 2011

2011 is the 90th anniversary of the marques Amilcar and Salmson two very prominent French voiturettes from the 1920s. Winton Motor Raceway is marking this by holding a large static display of all the voiturettes they can muster together. Bruce Smeaton supplied all the initial names and contact details but apart from entering himself has had little to do with this event. Some of the interstate voiturette owners baulked at traveling so far for a static display so Bruce is organising a two-day rally strictly for French voiturettes of the 1920s to begin immediately after Winton.

The Winton display is being held on the weekend of Saturday, 28th and Sunday, 29th May 2011. As well as the static display there is a chance for entrants who meet event requirements to take part in one or more regularity runs on the track.

Tuesday, 31st May and Wednesday, 1st June are two days of touring with a catered lunch each day and a restaurant dinner back at the Lake Hume Resort.

Lake Hume when full holds six times more water than Sydney Harbour and it is currently 99% full. The surrounding countryside has never looked better and the whole region is covered in small sealed roads constructed when the Lake Hume and Snowy projects were in full swing. These roads have been maintained as inspection and fire access roads and are perfect for small-capacity French voiturettes. The country varies from undulating lakeside motoring to climbing through heavily wooded hills.

Monday, 30th May is a travel day to load and pack up after Winton and then travel up to the Lake Hume Resort on the banks of Lake Hume, book in and get ready for two days of touring. The dinner that night is a catered barbecue to be held in a vast outdoor (roofed) barbecue pit.

If you have a French voiturette and an active historic motorist you may like to enter. Bruce has organised discounted accommodation and meals for rally entrants and the rally fee is $30.00 per car to cover printing, postage and phone calls.

19 voiturettes have entered to date from Queensland, Western Australia, Victoria, South Australia and NSW. You do not require maps as everything will be provided.
